Introduction of air fryer salmon
Salmon, a member of the family Salmonidae, is one of the most sought-after fish known for its rich flavor and nutritional benefits. These fish are primarily found in the North Atlantic and Pacific oceans, though some species inhabit freshwater lakes and rivers. Salmon are anadromous, which means they migrate from saltwater to freshwater to spawn. This fascinating lifecycle contributes to the fish’s unique characteristics and popularity in global cuisines. There are several species of salmon, each with distinct features and flavors. The five most commonly recognized types of salmon include:
· Chinook Salmon: Often revered as the largest and most flavorful species, Chinook salmon can weigh up to 130 pounds. Its rich, fatty flesh is a favorite among chefs and seafood enthusiasts.
· Coho Salmon: Known for its vibrant red flesh and mild flavor, Coho salmon is also referred to as silver salmon due to its shimmering skin. It typically weighs between 8 to 12 pounds.
· Sockeye Salmon: Sockeye salmon is prized for its deep red color and robust flavor. This species is commonly sought after for canning and smoking, making it a staple in many kitchens.
· Pink Salmon: The smallest and most abundant species, Pink salmon has a lighter flavor and more delicate texture. It is frequently found canned or used for fish patties.
· Chum Salmon: Also known as dog salmon for its distinctive appearance, Chum salmon has a lower fat content than other types and is often utilized for its roe or fish eggs.
Ingredients
· 1 lb. salmon (see note 1)
· 1 tablespoon brown sugar
· 1 teaspoon paprika
· 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
· 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
· 1 teaspoon onion powder
· 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
· 1 teaspoon cornstarch
· 3/4 teaspoon coarse kosher salt (or 1/2 teaspoon table salt)
· 2–3 teaspoons avocado or olive oil
Instruction
1. Prep the salmon: Remove the skin from your salmon if it has skin. Pat with paper towels so the surface is mostly dry. Cut your salmon into cubes, 1 to 2 inches each (see photo).
2. Prep the spices: Mix the spices in a small bowl.
3. Toss salmon with spices: Toss your salmon cubes in herbs and oil – I usually mix it all together with my hands.
4. Air fry the salmon: Place your salmon pieces in the air fryer (I dump them right in) and spread them out so they’re not lying all over each other. Air fry at 400 degrees for 8 minutes!
5. You’re done! Yum! At this point, it should be textured and golden on the outside and juicy and delicious on the inside. When you press each piece with a fork, they should easily flake/slip apart with a buttery, juicy texture inside. (You can do 6-7 minutes if you prefer more of a medium doneness.)
